Our story

It all started with the mandate of His Highness Sheikh Mohammed Bin Rashid Al Maktoum, now the Vice President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai, to convert the government of Dubai to an Electronic government enabling citizens and residents to transact with the government using the world wide web. The Dubai eGovernment has been accordingly created in the year 2000, to lead the digital transformation of all governmental services.

Within a short span of time, Dubai Customs and Dubai Ports Authority introduced their first suite of online services followed by the Jebel Ali Free Zone authority. In 2003, the three departments decided to unite their different websites into one web portal for a good reason: Providing their common customers with a streamlined process and unified experience to facilitate their business. The result was a single window platform called the Dubai Trade Portal.

What started as an enhancement IT project grew rapidly in terms of user acceptance creating an inevitable need for a long-term strategy to grow the business beyond the project’s boundaries, hence Dubai Trade was established as an independent department in the year 2006, with the objective of managing the existing business, providing advanced support to the customer community and laying down an aggressive growth strategy for the future.

Dubai Trade eventually transformed the entire trade supply chain in Dubai into a digitally-enabled platform, thus empowering the trade and logistics community with enhanced productivity, efficiency and profitability.

Today, the Dubai Trade Portal offers hundreds of online services to more than 140,000 companies who conduct around 55,000 online transaction every single day, saving enormous efforts and expenses in their operations, as well as to the service providers and the economy at large.

DT World evolved from Dubai Trade in 2015 as a response to the increasing demand from several economies around the world to adopt Dubai’s model in trade facilitation, and rollout online community platforms similar to Dubai Trade Portal. Today, DT World’s activities are spread over 6 continents powered by its home-grown Community Logistics System “Mawani LCS”, which is a re-invention of Dubai Trade Portal in a more flexible and adaptable architecture and an updated technology stack, providing DT World with advanced adaptability and exceptional time-to-market.

DT World is a 100% subsidiary of the global trade enabler DP World Group, who operates 78 ports terminals and manages logistics parks and economic zones in 40 countries around the globe.
